Skin Care and Makeup Tips From Olivia Restaurant

Keep Your Skin Moisturized To Prevent Blemishes

Tip #1: Say Goodbye To Dry. Assuming you don’t have one already, test out a number of different facial scrubs in the months leading up to your wedding. Once you find a scrub that doesn’t dry your skin or cause blemishes, apply it 2-3 days before your wedding – never the day before – to prevent dry patches and blotches on your wedding day. Keeping your skin hydrated is another great way to prevent unwanted dryness and breakouts, so make sure you’re never far from your moisturizer.

Tip #2: Tame Those Puffy Eyes. Let’s face it, you probably won’t sleep all that well in the days leading up to your nuptials. To help keep puffy eyes from ruining your big day, wear a moisture-boosting eye mask every night beginning a week or two before your wedding day. Covering your eyes with two frozen spoons is another way to remove unsightly, last-minute puffiness on the morning of your wedding.

If Your Find A Pimple Before Your Wedding, Don’t Panic!

Tip #3: Block The Blemishes. It’s a bride’s worst nightmare: three days before the most important day of your life, a big pimple starts forming in the middle of your forehead! First of all, don’t panic, and definitely don’t try and pop it – this could irritate the blemish, or worse, cause it to become infected. If it’s a small pimple, try applying a bit of toothpaste over the infected area for an hour or two. If it happens to be bigger, a cortisone shot from a dermatologist  will shrink it immediately.

Pre-Wedding Makeup Tips From Olivia Restaurant

Follow This Guide To Apply The Perfect Blush!

Tip# 5: Even Out Your Base. Though your friends and family might warn you against looking “washed out” in your wedding pictures – especially in natural lighting and against the pure white of your wedding dress – the top beauty artists will tell you that, when it comes to wedding makeup, more is not always better. Instead of caking on layers, focus on achieving a smooth, simple base layer with foundation, then add subtle touches of  color to your cheeks, eyes, and lips to make them pop. Also, try matching the color of your foundation to your neck and not to your face; your neck will usually be lighter (because it gets less sun), so opting for a lighter shade will prevent the dreaded orangy jawline look.

Tip #6: Contour To Perfection. Black and white wedding photos can be stunning, especially if you’ve contoured your cheeks properly. For the best results, professional makeup artists recommend sucking in your cheeks to create the hollow areas, then using a highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones and applying powder to the hollows. Finally, lightly brush a slightly-darker-than-usual shade of blush to the tops of your cheeks, sweeping the brush backward and blending upward toward your ears. (Consult the chart above to see where blush looks best, depending on the shape of your face.)

Tip #7: Opt For Matte. To eliminate the unsightly, glossy shine that comes from a photographer’s flash, it’s imperative that you keep the middle of your face – forehead, nose, and chin – reflection-free by frequently dusting these problem areas with translucent powder. Illuminating foundation and shimmery eye shadow, too, may look great in person, but they can often ruin photographs by bouncing too much light back at the camera. For the best photos, steer clear of anything “glowing,” “shimmering,” or “sparkly.”

Tip #8: Brighten Those Lips. Most makeup artists will tell you to accentuate either your mouth or your eyes, not both; if you elect to focus on the former, choosing a bright lip color – pinks, roses, deep reds – will keep you from looking anemic/tired in photographs. Bright lipstick also draws a sharper contrast with your teeth, making your pearly whites sparkle even brighter in the pictures of you laughing gleefully!

Blow-Dry An Eyelash Curler For Long-Lasting Hold!

Tip #9: Get Long-Lasting Curl. Here’s a simple makeup  hack from the professionals: Hold a blow dryer up to your eyelash curler for five seconds, then use the hot curler on your lashes the way you normally would (though be careful not to burn your eyelids!)  Just like a curling iron, heat changes the pattern of your hair and will ensure that your lashes stay gorgeous for the duration of your wedding day.

Knowing When Your Makeup Expires Will Save Your Skin In The Long Run

Tip #10: Know When To Toss It. Beauty product are expensive, we know! But using an expired moisturizer or makeup can be detrimental to your skin and may potentially cause problems at the worst time (i.e. your wedding day). Follow the simple guide above to make sure that your beauty and care products are all up-to-date.

Tip #11: Practice Makes Perfect. Though hiring a professional makeup artist is always a good idea – especially for something as important as your wedding – if your budget doesn’t allow for one, make sure you practice applying your wedding makeup at least 2-3 times before the big day. Wear a white shirt while putting on your makeup (to mimic the color of your dress), and have a friend or family member with a nice camera snap a couple photos of you to make sure everything looks great on film.
